For whom is EA intended?
EA can prove useful at any place where it is necessary to plan and manage development of IT systems in a long term. This means all the mid-sized and larger companies need to control the Enterprise Architecture. The result of EA implementation is better planning, earlier identification of needs and problems, better design of particular solutions and overall improved support of the company operations. Some companies choose to resolve the Enterprise Architecture issues intuitively; however, to guarantee success it is convenient to utilize well-established practices and experience.
Did you know...
...that Enterprise Architecture is a way of arranging the business processes and IT infrastructure that reflects the requirements of the company operations model on integration and standardization?
What are the problems resulting from missing Enterprise Architecture?
- Implementation of "useless projects" - i.e. projects that deliver something no one wanted or something that already exists in the company. EA provides an overview of current functionality and can check if a project would help you realize a certain business strategy.
- Does the IT development planning seem vague or do your plans turn out to be substantially inaccurate? EA helps you define long-term goals derived from your business targets and as such can create real development plans.
- IT systems cost more and more but their added value is getting lower. EA allows you to check which of the IT system functionalities are really necessary and comply with the business requirements.
- The IT department is not able to meet the requirements of the commercial departments. EA helps to simplify the IT environment and, at the same times, develops the IT infrastructure so that it is ready for future needs.
- There is not enough information available on how the IT really works. That causes delays in project implementation. EA helps to maintain overview of mutual relations and functioning of the IT systems.
- Different systems do the same activities. EA keeps track of what each system is does therefore it can prevent development of duplicate solutions.
- IT problems are being solved at the top-management level. EA will help you determine which of the IT systems are the most critical, so that you can focus on solving the major problems.
- The IT department has a lot of ideas but the management does not understand them and does not want to fund them. EA can define a project scheme in accordance with the company goals that can gain support of the management.
